Bay shoreline
The coastline of Monterey Bay curves gently past Seaside. Highway 1 and the dunes follow it, and together they form the dominant arc on the poster.

Seaside Map Poster & Print
Seaside lies on the southern curve of Monterey Bay, between Monterey and Sand City. From above, its streets fill the slope between the beach dunes and the higher ground inland. Highway 1 runs along the coast in a long arc and separates the town from the sand and the water.
A large part of the map east of the town was once Fort Ord, a big army post that closed in the 1990s. Some of that land is now home to California State University, Monterey Bay, and the rest is open space, trails and new development. The shapes are looser there than in the older residential grid. Near the Monterey edge, the small lake of Laguna Grande sits within a park.
A Seaside map poster pairs the smooth curve of the bay with a neighbourhood grid and a vast former military landscape. It is a quiet but interesting composition, with water on one side and open hills on the other.

Former Fort Ord
East of town, the grounds of the old army post spread across the hills. The campus, trails and open land there draw looser shapes than the city grid.
Laguna Grande
A small lake and park near the Monterey border break up the grid of blocks. The lake adds a single, soft water shape inland from the bay.

Seaside is home to families, students and veterans who remember Fort Ord. A map that includes both the bay and the old base speaks to all of them.
