Semīrom lies high in the Zagros Mountains in the south of Isfahan Province. It is one of the highest towns in the region. The town sits in a mountain valley. Its streets form a compact grid, surrounded by orchards and farmland, and bare slopes rise all around.
The area is well known for its apples, and orchards cover much of the land around the town. A Semīrom map poster shows these orchards as a fine texture between the town and the mountains, with roads following the valley floors.
