Sète Map Poster & Print
Sète occupies a narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean and the Étang de Thau, a large lagoon. From above, the town is defined by water: canals cross the centre, quays line the harbour, and Mont Saint-Clair rises as a single hill above the streets. Long beaches stretch southwest along the coast.
The port was founded in 1666 under Louis XIV, as the Mediterranean outlet of the Canal du Midi. The poet Paul Valéry and the singer Georges Brassens were both born in Sète, and Valéry is buried in the Cimetière marin overlooking the sea. The town is also known for its summer water jousting tournaments.
A Sète map poster shows how tightly the town is shaped by its setting: canals running through the centre, the lagoon on one side, the open sea on the other, and the hill in between. It is one of the most distinctive coastal maps in southern France.

Mont Saint-Clair
The hill rises above the town, with winding roads climbing its slopes and a clear, rounded shape on the map.
Lagoon and sea
The Étang de Thau and the Mediterranean surround the town on two sides, framing a narrow strip of land between two bodies of water.

Sète is loved by those who have spent summers on its quays and beaches. A map of its canals and lagoon captures that sense of a town surrounded by water.
