Separate villages
Niedersprockhövel and Haßlinghausen appear as separate clusters of streets with open countryside between them. The municipality therefore reads on the poster as a group of small islands.

Sprockhövel Map Poster & Print
Sprockhövel lies in the Ennepe-Ruhr district, on the hilly land between the Ruhr valley and the Bergisches Land. It is not a single compact town. It is a group of settlements, mainly Niedersprockhövel and Haßlinghausen, linked by country roads that wind over a steep, green landscape of meadows and woodland.
This area is often described as one of the cradles of Ruhr coal mining. Coal seams came close to the surface in these hills, and mining here began long before the large industrial collieries further north. Most of what remains today is local history, and the countryside has largely grown back over it.
A Sprockhövel map poster shows a pattern very different from the Ruhr cities. Streets follow valleys and ridges, the villages sit apart from one another, and large empty areas of field and forest fill the gaps. The motorway to the north marks the edge of the more urban region.

Winding lanes
Roads here rarely run straight. They follow valleys and climb the ridges in long bends, which gives the whole map a soft, flowing character.
Early mining land
The hills around Sprockhövel belong to the earliest coal-mining area of the Ruhr. The map shows this landscape as it is now: mostly rural, and quieter than the industrial cities.
