St. Thomas Map Poster & Print
St. Thomas sits in Elgin County, a short drive north of Lake Erie and south of London, Ontario. From above, its core is a straightforward North American grid, with Talbot Street running through as the historic main street. What breaks the order is Kettle Creek, whose wooded valley winds along the western side of the city and forces bridges and bends into the otherwise regular blocks.
The city calls itself the Railway Capital of Canada, and the map explains why: several railway lines once converged here, and their rights of way still slice diagonally through the streets. St. Thomas is also remembered as the place where Jumbo, the famous circus elephant, was killed by a train in 1885, an event marked by a life-size statue at the edge of town.
A St. Thomas map poster shows a town built around movement: straight streets for settlement, long diagonals for trains, and a creek valley that nobody could quite straighten. In black and white the old railway corridors become the most expressive lines on the sheet, cutting confidently across the grid as they must have once cut across the farmland around it.

Kettle Creek valley
The creek's winding, wooded valley forms a soft green edge to the city, interrupting the grid and giving the western side of the map its shape.
Talbot Street spine
The historic main street runs through the centre and links the downtown blocks, an easy line for anyone who knows the town to find at once.
