Suhe is a small town in the southern part of Gansu Province, in north-western China. The land here is hilly and cut by valleys, and on a map the terrain is clear from the roads alone. They follow the valley floors and bend with the watercourses rather than crossing the high ground.
Settlements in this part of Gansu tend to grow along valleys, with buildings lining the main road and fields terraced up the surrounding slopes.
