The Siddhartha Highway runs through the town, and most of the built-up area lines this single main route along the valley.

Wāliṅ Map Poster & Print
Wāliṅ lies in Syangja District in Gandaki Province, in the middle hills of western Nepal between Pokhara and Butwal. The town grew along the Siddhartha Highway, and from above the main road is the obvious spine. Streets and buildings gather along it, and the land rises quickly into ridges and terraced slopes on either side.
The surrounding hills are farmed in steps, and small streams run down the valley sides to the river below. The town serves as a market centre for the nearby villages, and its shape follows the road and the valley floor, where the ground is flat enough to build on.
A Wāliṅ map poster shows a long, road-shaped town. A dense spine of streets runs through the middle, and branching lanes climb toward the ridges. Streams and slopes leave broad areas of white. It is a clear picture of a Nepali hill town, a type of place made by geography.

Valley floor
The town fills the flatter ground between hills. Its outline is long and narrow, with little room to spread sideways.
Hillside lanes
Smaller roads branch off the main route and climb the slopes toward outlying villages and terraced farmland.
