The Belgian border
The frontier runs along the town's northern and eastern edges. On the map, streets pass across it with little interruption, showing how closely this corner of France is tied to its Belgian neighbours.

Wattrelos Map Poster & Print
Wattrelos sits on the northeastern edge of the Lille metropolitan area, where French streets run straight into Belgian ones with barely a change in rhythm. From above, the town appears as a close mesh of terraced blocks, narrow lanes and small squares. It merges with Roubaix to the west, so the edge of the built-up area is hard to find.
The shape comes from its industrial past. Like its neighbours Roubaix and Tourcoing, Wattrelos grew around textile mills. Rows of workers' housing still set the grain of many neighbourhoods. A canal crosses the area towards the border, a long, even line through the smaller streets, and green spaces break up the texture where old industrial land has been reused.
A Wattrelos map poster shows a place defined by closeness: to its neighbours, to the frontier and between the houses themselves. In black and white the dense residential fabric reads almost like woven cloth. That suits a town whose working life was built on looms, and the border can be traced where the pattern continues without a pause.

Canal corridor
A canal cuts across the town towards Belgium. Its steady line and the paths along its banks stand out against the irregular pattern of residential streets around it.
Terraced street grain
Long rows of narrow plots and closely spaced streets, a legacy of the textile era, give large parts of the town a fine, repetitive texture that prints well.

For people who grew up in Wattrelos or worked in the mills and workshops of the Lille area, this map records a very particular kind of urban density. It makes a quiet, honest piece for a hallway or study, and it carries more than a street plan.
You can add a personal title, such as a family name or a moving-in date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
