Oasis fields
Long, narrow fields and tree-lined irrigation channels surround the town, forming a fine striped pattern that ends abruptly at the desert.

Xincheng Map Poster & Print
Xincheng lies in the Kuqa oasis in southern Xinjiang, at the point where the southern slopes of the Tian Shan descend into the Tarim Basin. From above, the settlement is framed by contrasts: irrigated fields and poplar-lined roads close to the town, and bare desert and rocky foothills beyond.
The urban area combines broad, straight avenues and large blocks from recent development with older neighbourhoods of narrower lanes. Irrigation channels fed by mountain rivers run through the surrounding farmland, dividing the oasis into long rectangular fields.
The Kuqa area was once the centre of the ancient kingdom of Kucha, an important stop on the northern branch of the Silk Road. A Xincheng map poster records the sharp border between cultivated oasis and open desert, a pattern that has defined life here for centuries.

Wide avenues
Newer districts are laid out along broad, straight roads and large blocks, giving the centre a strongly geometric structure.
Desert margin
Beyond the irrigated land the map turns almost empty, with only a few roads crossing the foothills and basin.

For people from the Kuqa oasis, or travellers who followed the old Silk Road through Xinjiang, this map is a clear image of a town defined by water and desert. It makes an unusually graphic print.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line and select Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand and Paper suit the desert setting especially well.
