Xinglong lies in the mountainous east of Chongqing, where steep hills and narrow valleys leave little flat land. On a map the town follows the lie of the ground: streets bend with the valley, roads switch back up the slopes, and the built area stretches out in a narrow band rather than spreading in every direction.
