Žiar nad Hronom Map Poster & Print
Žiar nad Hronom lies in central Slovakia on the Hron river, between the Štiavnica and Kremnica mountains. For centuries it was called Svätý Kríž nad Hronom. After the Second World War it was rebuilt around a large aluminium smelter and renamed, and it grew quickly as an industrial town.
The map clearly shows this history. A small historic core with a church and manor sits beside wide, planned post-war housing districts laid out in long, orderly blocks. A Žiar nad Hronom map poster places these next to the large industrial area and the course of the Hron through the valley.
The surrounding landscape is hilly and wooded, formed by the old volcanic ranges that frame the basin. Roads and railways follow the valley floor and the river, so the town looks like a well-defined, busy strip set between two green masses.

Post-war districts
Large residential areas from the socialist era fill much of the town with long, regular blocks, a clear geometric pattern on the map.
Industrial zone
The aluminium works and associated plants cover a wide area next to the town, a large mass of shapes that tells how Žiar grew.

Žiar nad Hronom was built by and for people who worked there, and many families still have ties to the plant and the valley. A map of its planned blocks and river is a straightforward, honest portrait of a working town.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with the year you moved there or a family name. Choose one of five styles and download HD files for $9, or order a matte poster with an optional frame.
