Zwijndrecht lies on the Oude Maas, directly opposite the historic city of Dordrecht in South Holland. The river forms the town's southern edge, and the map shows the typical Dutch pattern of a waterfront built along a dike, with residential districts stretching inland across reclaimed land.
Several bridges cross the Oude Maas here, carrying road and railway traffic between Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht.
