The old town forms a dense cluster of winding lanes on raised ground. It is the most intricate part of the map and the original heart of the settlement.

Castrovillari Map Poster & Print
Castrovillari lies in the province of Cosenza in northern Calabria, at the edge of Pollino National Park, one of the largest protected areas in Italy. The Pollino massif rises behind the town, and to the east the land falls towards the plain of Sibari and the Ionian Sea.
The map shows two layers. The historic core is a compact knot of narrow, curving streets on higher ground, and the Aragonese castle stands near it. The modern town spreads out below in wider streets and more regular blocks, running across the gentler slopes and flatter land.
A Castrovillari map poster shows this shift between old and new clearly. The tight medieval streets contrast with the more open plan below them, and the roads heading towards the mountains and the plain give the composition a sense of place between two very different landscapes.

Aragonese castle
The castle stands near the old town and marks one of the town's best-known landmarks. On the map it appears as a compact block within the historic streets.
Gateway to Pollino
Roads leave the town towards the mountains of the national park, which is a reminder that Castrovillari is a starting point for trips into the Pollino.
