Fleming Island is a community in Clay County, Florida, south of Jacksonville. Its shape comes from water. The broad St. Johns River runs along the east side and Doctors Lake cuts in from the north, which gives the area a peninsular outline. US Highway 17 runs through it as the main north–south spine.
Most of the land is residential, with neighbourhoods laid out in looping streets and cul-de-sacs, many of them wrapped around golf courses, ponds and wooded buffers. Shopping centres and schools cluster along the highway, while homes reach toward the shoreline on both sides.
