Kapadvanj is a town in Kheda district of central Gujarat, set on the plains east of Ahmedabad beside the Mohar river. From above, the old town is a compact knot of narrow, winding lanes, the kind of dense layout found in many historic Gujarati towns, with newer, more regular development spreading outward along the main roads.
The town is known for its medieval monuments, notably a stepped water tank and an ornamental arch, or kirti torana, dating from the Solanki period. It was long a trading town, and like many old Gujarati towns its older quarters still carry the imprint of merchant communities in their close-set houses and narrow lanes.
