Lalla Mimouna is in Kenitra Province, in the north of the Gharb plain, one of the most important farming areas in Morocco. The land is flat and fertile, and from above the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, orchards and irrigation channels. Roads lead out toward the coast and to other towns in the plain.
The Atlantic coast lies a short distance to the west, where the Merja Zerga lagoon at Moulay Bousselham is known for its birdlife. Lalla Mimouna itself is an agricultural centre, with a market serving the farming communities around it. The town takes its name from a local saint, a common tradition for places in this part of Morocco.
