Minchinabad lies in the Bahawalnagar district of Pakistani Punjab, in the flat irrigated country south of the Sutlej and not far from the Indian border. The landscape around it is shaped by the canal system that brought irrigation to this part of Punjab, and on the map the canals and distributaries appear as long, purposeful lines through the farmland.
The town itself is compact, with a denser older centre and newer growth along the main roads. Streets are shorter and more irregular in the core, and loosen into more regular plots at the edges.
