Modāsa lies in northeastern Gujarat as the headquarters of Aravalli district, where the plains begin to rise toward the Aravalli hills. On a map the town has a clear two-part character: an older centre of close, winding lanes, and around it newer residential colonies laid out in more regular blocks, stretching along the roads that lead to neighbouring towns.
The Majum river passes close to the town, and its course sets a soft natural line along one side of the map, with the street pattern thinning toward the bank. Beyond the built-up area the land is agricultural, divided into irregular field plots, with low hills appearing more often toward the north and east.
Modāsa serves as an education and trading centre for the surrounding area, and it lies on the way to Shamlaji, the well-known temple town near the Rajasthan border. The river runs near the town, drawing a gentle curve along one side of the composition and softening the edge of the built-up area.
