Nīlēshwar is a town in Kasaragod district in northern Kerala, close to the Arabian Sea. Water shapes almost everything here. The Nileshwar River and the neighbouring Tejaswini reach the coast through a network of estuaries, islands and backwaters, so on a map the town sits among these channels rather than on a single clear shoreline.
The built area is loose and spread out, in the way of many Kerala towns, with houses lining roads and lanes rather than gathering into tight blocks.
