Northglenn lies on the northern edge of the Denver metropolitan area, on the high plains east of the Front Range. It began in the late 1950s as a planned community, built all at once by a single developer, and that origin is still visible from above: curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs, schools set within neighbourhoods and green space spread throughout the city.
Interstate 25 runs along the western side of the city in a straight north–south line, and major arterials divide Northglenn into large superblocks. Within them the streets bend and loop, and small lakes and reservoirs, many of them part of the regional irrigation network, appear as pale shapes among the houses. Parks and trails link several of these water bodies.

Lakes and parks
Several small lakes and reservoirs are spread through the city, surrounded by parks and trails, and they show up as open shapes breaking the dense street pattern.

The interstate runs straight along the western edge, a strong line with interchanges that clearly separates Northglenn from its neighbours on the map.
