Paşcani lies in the valley of the Siret River in northeastern Romania, west of Iași. On a map two long lines define the town. One is the river, running roughly north to south. The other is the railway, which made Paşcani one of the country's best-known junctions. The streets fill the ground between them, with the station district near the centre and farmland spread across the valley floor.
The town grew after the railway arrived in the nineteenth century, and its station is still a major hub for lines across Moldavia. Paşcani is also closely tied to the writer Mihail Sadoveanu, who spent his childhood here. The old residence of the Cantacuzino-Paşcanu family, a manor house, still stands in town.

Siret River valley
The Siret flows along the eastern side of town through a wide valley. Its meanders and floodplain add soft, natural shapes beside the straight rail lines.
Old town streets
Near the centre, around the Cantacuzino manor and the main churches, the streets grow denser and less regular, marking the oldest part of the settlement.
