Sonobe Map Poster & Print
Sonobe lies in the eastern part of Saga Prefecture in northern Kyushu, close to the prefectural border with Fukuoka. The surrounding landscape is the broad, flat Saga plain, one of Kyushu's main rice-growing areas, with low hills rising to the north.
From above, the settlement is modest: clusters of houses along roads and small lanes, set amid a grid of rice paddies divided by irrigation ditches. The regular field pattern of this region, shaped by centuries of wet-rice farming, gives the map a strong geometric texture that contrasts with the softer lines of the hills and streams.
A Sonobe map poster shows a side of Japan far from the big cities: rural lanes, paddy fields and small neighbourhoods. The pattern works especially well in monochrome, where the field lines, roads and waterways become a calm abstract composition. It suits anyone with family roots here or a personal connection to this part of Kyushu.

Clustered houses
Homes gather along roads and lanes in small groups, typical of rural Saga, rather than forming a single dense town centre.
Hills to the north
Low wooded hills rise on the northern side, where the straight lines of the plain give way to curving roads and forest.
