Tanfang Map Poster & Print
Tanfang is a town in the Weifang area of central Shandong, on the level farmland that stretches north from the hills toward the Bohai coast. On a map the built-up area forms a modest cluster of streets, and around it the land is divided by long, straight roads and field boundaries. The result is a quiet, almost architectural pattern with very few curves.
This part of Shandong is intensively farmed, and the geometry of the countryside says as much about the place as the town centre does. Villages appear as small, dense knots scattered across the plain, linked by roads that run for kilometres without changing direction. Irrigation channels and the occasional shallow watercourse add a few thin lines that cut across the grid.
A Tanfang map poster is a study in restraint: a compact centre, a wide frame of fields and the fine lines that tie them together. For someone with family roots here, it records the town exactly as it sits on the plain, without decoration, in a form that is easy to hang almost anywhere.

Straight farm roads
Long rural roads run across the plain in nearly straight lines, dividing the land into broad rectangles that give the edges of the map a steady rhythm.
Scattered villages
Small villages sit at regular intervals around the town, each drawn as a dense little knot of lanes connected to the wider road network.

A map of Tanfang works well for anyone who knows the place first-hand, since the plain, the roads and the town centre are drawn exactly as they sit on the ground. The spare composition suits minimal interiors and small walls.
