Thiruthani Map Poster & Print
Thiruthani lies in northern Tamil Nadu, near the border with Andhra Pradesh, in the Tiruvallur district. The town is organised around a hill whose summit is crowned by the Subramanya Swamy temple. On a map the hill forms a clear open patch, with streets gathering at its foot and a stairway and road climbing towards the top.
The temple is one of the Arupadai Veedu, the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, and it draws large numbers of pilgrims all year round. A long flight of steps leads up to it, and tradition links their number to the days of the year. Festival days fill the town and the approaches to the hill.
A Thiruthani map poster frames the town around this natural focal point. The winding route up the hill sits above the dense streets of the town, and roads and a railway line cross the surrounding plain. It is an image of a pilgrimage town in which the landscape and the sacred site are inseparable.
