Türkmenabat Map Poster & Print
Türkmenabat stands on the left bank of the Amu Darya, one of Central Asia's great rivers. On a map the city spreads out from the water in a mostly regular grid of wide streets and large blocks. Irrigated fields and canals surround it, and past them the Karakum Desert begins to the west.
Known for most of its history as Chardzhou, the city has long been a crossing point on the Amu Darya. Caravan routes once passed through here, and later the railway linked Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan and beyond. Today it is the administrative centre of Lebap Province and the country's second-largest city.
A Türkmenabat map poster has a strong sense of scale. The river is wide and braided, with sandbanks and several channels. Road and rail bridges cross it in long lines. The city's grid sits on the western bank with green, irrigated land around it and open desert beyond.

River crossings
Long bridges carry road and rail traffic over the Amu Darya. They continue the historic role of the city as the main crossing point in this part of the valley.
Soviet-era grid
Much of the centre follows a planned layout of broad avenues and large blocks. It is orderly, spacious and easy to read in any of the poster styles.
