Fāyīd sits on the western edge of the Great Bitter Lake, the broad saltwater basin that the Suez Canal passes through roughly midway between Port Said and Suez. On a map the town reads as a thin settlement pinned between open water and dry ground. Its streets run roughly parallel to the shore and thin out quickly as the desert takes over to the west.
Much of the area's twentieth-century story is tied to the canal. During the British presence in the Canal Zone, Fāyīd hosted a large military base and airfield, and traces of that era still shape land use around the town. Today it is better known for lakeside beaches and holiday chalets, and for the ships that move slowly across the lake on their way between two seas.
The Fāyīd map poster keeps that contrast simple: a pale sheet of water on one side, a fine mesh of streets and roads on the other, and the shipping channel implied just beyond the frame. Shore-parallel streets
Streets follow the line of the coast rather than a formal grid, so the settlement appears as a narrow ribbon of blocks that stretches along the water instead of spreading inland.
Desert edge
West of town the street network stops abruptly. The empty ground reads as clean negative space, which makes the built area look sharper and more deliberate on the sheet.
