Valley grid
The central streets follow a fairly regular pattern on the flat valley floor, giving the core of the city an orderly look that loosens as it approaches the surrounding slopes.

Iguala de la Independencia Map Poster & Print
Iguala de la Independencia lies in northern Guerrero, in a valley enclosed by hills that rise sharply on several sides. On a map, the streets spread across the flat valley floor in a loose grid, then climb or stop where the terrain steepens. The Tuxpan lagoon sits a short distance from the city, a clean shape of water that stands out against the dense pattern of blocks.
The city holds a particular place in Mexican history. In 1821 the Plan of Iguala was proclaimed here, setting out the terms under which Mexico would become independent from Spain, and the city is traditionally associated with the first national flag. That history is carried in the full name of the city and in the large monumental flag that stands on a hill above it.
An Iguala de la Independencia map poster shows how closely the city is held by its surroundings. The grid in the valley reads clearly, while the edges soften into curving roads that follow the contours of the hills. The result is a map with a strong sense of enclosure, where the landscape frames the town rather than the other way round.

Tuxpan lagoon
The nearby lagoon forms a distinct body of water close to the city, a smooth, open shape that balances the tight texture of the urban blocks on the map.
Hills on all sides
Steep ground rises around the valley, so roads bend and thin out at the edges, and the city appears as a basin filled with streets.
