Katsuren-haebaru lies on the eastern side of Okinawa Island, within the city of Uruma, near the base of the Katsuren Peninsula. The land here is narrow and low, so the sea is never far from any street. On the map, the built-up area forms an irregular patch of residential blocks and farmland, bordered by coastline, small harbours and the shallow waters of the surrounding bays.
The peninsula is known for Katsuren Castle, a hilltop gusuku whose ruins are part of the UNESCO-listed sites of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
