La Crescenta-Montrose is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California. It lies in the Crescenta Valley, between the Verdugo Mountains to the south and the steep front of the San Gabriel Mountains to the north. The name La Crescenta is said to come from the crescent shapes that an early settler saw in the surrounding hills from his home.
From above, the community covers a long, sloping alluvial fan. Streets climb north toward the mountains in long parallel lines and end abruptly where the canyons and national forest begin. Foothill Boulevard runs east to west across the slope as the main commercial street. Interstate 210 cuts a broad curve through the valley floor, and Montrose's small shopping district sits toward the south-east.
