Plaza Mayor
The eighteenth-century baroque square appears as a large enclosed block at the centre of the old town, its strong geometric form sharply defined among the irregular streets around it.

Salamanca Map Poster & Print
Salamanca rises on the north bank of the Tormes river in western Castile and León. From above, the old town is a dense, irregular web of streets on raised ground, bounded by broad avenues that follow the line of the former walls. The Roman bridge crosses the river at the foot of the hill, and beyond the historic core the city spreads out into regular modern districts on all sides.
The University of Salamanca, founded in 1218, is one of the oldest universities in Europe, and its buildings, together with the Old and New Cathedrals, give the centre its distinctive skyline. The historic city was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Much of it is built from local Villamayor sandstone, whose warm colour has earned Salamanca the nickname La Dorada, the golden city.
A Salamanca map poster captures the Plaza Mayor as a crisp enclosed square in the middle of the medieval tangle, the long curve of the Tormes and the slender line of the Roman bridge. It is a natural choice for former students, Erasmus alumni and anyone who has spent time in the city's lecture halls and cafés, and it holds up well at every size.

Roman bridge
The long stone bridge over the Tormes, with Roman origins, links the old town to the south bank and forms a clear, straight line across the water.
University quarter
Between the Plaza Mayor and the cathedrals, the university's historic buildings and courtyards fill a cluster of closely packed blocks on the high ground above the river.
