Valle de La Pascua lies in the Venezuelan llanos, the vast grassy plains that stretch across the centre of the country. The terrain around the city is almost entirely flat, which lets the street plan develop freely. Blocks are laid out in a largely regular pattern around the old centre, and the city spreads outward until the grid gives way to open ranch land.
The economy of the surrounding region has long revolved around cattle ranching and agriculture, and the city serves as a commercial hub for this part of Guárico. Like many towns of the plains, it is closely associated with joropo, the harp-and-cuatro music of the llanos. The seasonal rhythm of rains and dry months still shapes life across the savannah around it.
