Nunspeet lies on the northern edge of the Veluwe in Gelderland, where the large forest and heathland of the interior come down to the low polder land along the Veluwemeer. From above the town sits almost exactly on that boundary. Wooded areas press in from the south, while to the north the land opens into fields and the long, narrow lake that separates the old coast from Flevoland.
The railway between Amersfoort and Zwolle runs through town, and residential neighbourhoods spread out on both sides with a mix of older lanes and more recent, curving streets. Towards the lake a small harbour and recreational shore bring the water close. The woodland around Nunspeet is popular for walking and cycling, and holiday parks among the trees are part of the town's character.
