The Nile
The river passes close to the town as a wide, steady band, the reference line from which the canals, field boundaries and roads on the map take their direction.

Ang mapa
Abū Tīj Map Poster & Print
Abū Tīj lies in Upper Egypt, in Asyut Governorate, on the west bank of the Nile. From above, the pattern is the classic one of the valley: a river running north, a ribbon of cultivation along its banks, and pale desert beginning abruptly beyond it. The town itself is a dense cluster of streets and houses set among fields crossed by irrigation canals.
The name is usually traced to the Greek word apotheke, meaning storehouse, a hint that the town has long served as a place of trade and storage in the valley. Today it is a district centre for the surrounding villages, and its streets carry the everyday traffic of markets, schools and farms that depend on the Nile's water.
An Abū Tīj map poster reduces the town to its essentials: the river, the canals, the fields and the compact street network in between. In black and white, the ruled lines of the irrigation channels contrast with the looser lanes of the older quarters, and the Nile passes through the frame as a broad, calm band.

Irrigation canals
Straight canals and drainage channels divide the farmland into long rectangular plots, giving the surroundings a fine, ruled texture around the denser town centre.
Desert margin
Beyond the cultivated strip the land turns to desert almost at once, so the farmed valley appears on the map as a clearly bounded ribbon.
