Nile Valley setting
The town sits inside the green corridor of the Nile, so its map is long and narrow. The river, the roads and the railway all run in the same direction.

Ang mapa
Ţahţā Map Poster & Print
Ţahţā lies in Sohag Governorate in Upper Egypt, in the narrow strip of fertile land along the Nile. The town sits a short distance from the river, and the valley shapes its map. The centre is dense and irregular, roads and a railway run north to south alongside the Nile, and irrigation canals divide the farmland into long, narrow fields.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Rifa'a al-Tahtawi, the nineteenth-century scholar and translator who became a leading figure of Egypt's intellectual revival. His name, taken from the town, has made Ţahţā familiar to readers far beyond Sohag. The town also remains a regional centre for the farming villages around it, with markets that draw people in from the fields.
A Ţahţā map poster shows how closely a Nile Valley town fits into its landscape. The compact old streets stay tightly packed, the canals draw straight lines through the fields, and the river and the desert edge frame the scene on either side. In black and white, that order among the fields reads clearly.

Irrigation canals
Canals branch through the surrounding farmland and draw fine, straight lines. They divide the fields into a patchwork around the edges of the town.
Dense town centre
At the core, streets narrow and turn in the irregular pattern typical of older Upper Egyptian towns. The centre shows as a dark, concentrated mass against the open fields.
