Hellevoetsluis sits on the southern shore of Voorne-Putten, where the island meets the broad water of the Haringvliet. From above, the old centre is easy to find: a compact fortress town with angled bastions and moats wrapped around a narrow harbour basin that runs inland from the estuary.
