Krishnāpuram lies in Alappuzha district in southern Kerala, close to Kayamkulam and a short distance inland from the Arabian Sea. Like much of coastal Kerala, it is less a compact town than a continuous spread of houses, lanes and gardens. On a map, the settlement fills the land evenly between roads and waterways.
The best-known landmark is Krishnapuram Palace, built in the eighteenth century in the traditional Kerala style under Marthanda Varma of Travancore.
