Neyyāttinkara sits in the far south of Kerala, a short distance inland from the Arabian Sea and just south of the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram. The town takes its name from the Neyyar, the river that curves along its edge before heading down to the coast. From above, the streets look fine-grained and irregular.
