Pappinivattom lies in the Kodungallur area of Thrissur district, on the thin strip of land along Kerala's central coast. From above, the setting is defined by parallel lines: the sandy shore of the Arabian Sea to the west, a main road running north to south, and inland channels and wet fields to the east.
Settlement here is not concentrated in a single centre. Houses sit among coconut groves in a continuous, low-density spread, connected by narrow lanes that run from the main road toward the beach or toward the backwaters. To the south lies Kodungallur, associated with the ancient port of Muziris, which traded with the Roman world.
