Wankyi, widely known as Wenchi, is a town in the Bono Region of west-central Ghana. It sits in the transition zone between the southern forest belt and the savanna of the north, and the surrounding landscape mixes patches of woodland with farms and open grassland. The town is a local centre for trade and administration in its district.
From above, Wankyi is shaped by the roads that meet there. The older centre, with its market and closely spaced buildings, gathers near the main junctions.
