The coastal highway that links Tripoli to the eastern cities runs through this part of the country and forms the strongest line on the map. Al Marqab district is also home to Leptis Magna, one of the best-preserved Roman cities of the Mediterranean, near Khoms. Around Al-'Alūaṣ, farm tracks divide the land into long, irregular plots.
