Alcobendas lies just north of Madrid along the A-1 motorway, part of the continuous urban belt that surrounds the capital. From above, it is a patchwork of distinct pieces: a dense historic centre, newer apartment districts, large business parks along the motorway and, to the south, the leafy residential estate of La Moraleja with its curving roads.
Motorways mark the edges of the municipality, and the neighbouring town of San Sebastián de los Reyes has grown into it so closely that the boundary is hard to see on a map. Many international companies have offices here, which explains the wide blocks and car-friendly layouts of the business areas along the motorway corridor.
