Alīgūdarz is a town in eastern Lorestan province, high in the Zagros Mountains of western Iran. At this altitude winters are cold and snowy, and the surrounding ranges feed streams that flow down toward the larger rivers of the region. The area has long been associated with pastoral life in the mountains.
From above, the town sits in a basin, with its street network filling the flatter ground and roads leaving through gaps in the surrounding high country. The layout mixes a denser, older core with newer, more regular districts on the outskirts. Beyond the edge of town are fields, orchards and the start of the mountain slopes.
