Beāwar lies in central Rajasthan where the ridges of the Aravalli range rise close by, showing on a map as broken, lightly settled ground. The town sits on flatter land beside them, with a clearly defined older core and newer neighbourhoods spreading outward along the main roads. The old town was founded in the nineteenth century as a planned, walled market settlement, and its outline remains visible from above: a compact core with gates on its main approaches and streets arranged with more regularity than in many older Rajasthani towns. Around it, residential colonies, markets and industrial areas extend in less formal patterns, filling the plain towards the hills.
Beāwar grew as a trading centre, particularly for cotton and wool, and is also known for tilpatti, a sesame sweet associated with the town. It remains an important market for the surrounding region.
