Canlaon Map Poster & Print
Canlaon is a city in Negros Oriental, in the central Philippines, on the southeastern slopes of Kanlaon Volcano, the highest peak on the island of Negros and one of the country's active volcanoes. On a map, the city is shaped by that slope, with roads running up and across the mountainside and settlements scattered along them.
The altitude gives Canlaon a cooler climate than the coastal lowlands, and the fertile volcanic soil supports vegetable farming. The city is often called a vegetable basket of the region, and the fields on its slopes supply markets across Negros. Rivers and gullies run down from the summit, cutting the landscape into ridges.
Living near an active volcano shapes local life, and eruptions have led to evacuations in recent years. A Canlaon map poster shows the city in relation to the mountain: the compact centre, roads following the contours and the unmistakable presence of the volcano, which leaves a large open space in the composition.
