Coronel Vivida is a municipality in the south-west of Paraná, in southern Brazil, on the high, rolling plateau that stretches toward the borders with Santa Catarina and Argentina. Most of the region was settled during the twentieth century, and agriculture remains the backbone of local life, with crop fields and pasture reaching right up to the edge of town.
Seen on a map, the urban area follows a mostly regular grid, a common feature of planned towns in this part of Brazil, though the terrain bends some streets as they follow the valleys. Highways lead out toward neighbouring towns such as Pato Branco, and small watercourses cut through the surrounding countryside, adding soft irregular lines to the rectangular blocks.
