Guozhen lies in Shaanxi Province, in the western part of the Guanzhong plain near the city of Baoji. The Wei River runs through this stretch of the valley. From above, the town appears as a band of streets, residential compounds and factories laid out along the river corridor, squeezed between rising land on both sides.
To the south, the Qinling Mountains form the steep green wall that divides northern and southern China. To the north, the ground climbs onto terraced loess tablelands cut by gullies. On a Guozhen map poster, these landforms shape the street pattern: long east–west roads and rail lines follow the valley, and shorter streets climb toward its edges.
The Baoji area is associated with the rise of the Zhou dynasty, and it has also grown into a junction on the rail routes linking eastern China with the northwest and Sichuan. In monochrome, the map emphasises the valley itself, with river, railway and roads running in parallel lines through a landscape of mountains and plateau.
