Kirdāsah lies on the western edge of Greater Cairo in Giza Governorate, where the cultivated land of the Nile Valley meets the desert. On the map it appears as a tightly packed settlement of narrow streets. Irrigated fields and canals border it on one side, and the empty sand and rock of the Western Desert begin close by on the other. That abrupt boundary is the most striking feature of its geography.
The town has long been known for weaving and handicrafts. Its main market street has traditionally been lined with shops selling textiles, carpets, galabiyas and other hand-made goods. Its position near the Giza pyramid plateau put it on the route of many visitors, and the town has also grown quickly as part of the expanding Cairo metropolitan area.
