Lương Bằng is the administrative centre of Kim Động district in Hưng Yên Province, in the flat, fertile land of the Red River Delta southeast of Hanoi. From above, the map is almost level in character. Straight roads cross open farmland, and the town's built-up area gathers along the main routes, with village settlements spread in clusters across the plain.
Like much of the delta, the landscape is organised around water and rice. Irrigation channels, field boundaries and small ponds cover the countryside in a fine pattern. The town itself is modest.
