Madhyamgram lies in North 24 Parganas, on the north-eastern edge of the Kolkata metropolitan area. The land is flat delta country, so the street pattern grew without hills to shape it. The Sealdah–Bangaon railway runs through the town, and the station is a hub for commuters travelling into central Kolkata every day.
