Mweka is a town in the Kasai province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its layout is shaped by the railway that runs through it. The line linking the Kasai region with the southeast of the country passes the town, and much of the settlement grew along it. On a map, that gives the place a clear axis, with streets arranged around the tracks and the station area.
Beyond the built-up centre the pattern opens into a landscape of forest, savanna and scattered villages crossed by unpaved roads and paths.
